Frankenstein Day, International Bandana Day and Apple Day all fall on Halloween, Oct. 31.
Were you aware that there are strange holidays that occur daily, monthly and annually?? Some range from normal, such as Peanut Butter Day (Jan. 24) and International Ninja Day (Dec. 5) to the strangest of the strange like Belly Laugh Day (Jan.24), Worldwide Knit in Public Day (June 14), Be Bald and Free Day (Oct. 14), and Howl at the Moon, which interestingly is for humans too, (Oct. 26). Senior Bayleigh Williams celebrates Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead with her family and friends.
“Usually my family goes to a cafe in downtown St. Louis and a bunch of people come together and read their poetry about their loved ones that passed away. Later, there is a parade and we walk through the streets with different instruments and sing,” Williams said.
Freshmen Jane Fuller also celebrates Squirrel Day.
“It’s a really fun holiday to celebrate, and it has especially touched my family because my brother has a special connection with squirrels,” Fuller said.
Although not everyone celebrates Day of the Dead or National Squirrel Day, one holiday that everyone can celebrate is on Oct 24 the 13th annual Wear It Pink Day, celebrating and supporting women with breast cancer. Around the world countries celebrate this holiday. For example, in the UK there will be a fashion makeover intended to raise money, have fun, and bring awareness. More information can be found here.
