The varsity field hockey girls won in overtime against rival team Parkway South on Sept. 25 in an overtime shootout, with a score of 3-2, and also beat Rosati-Kain in overtime on Sept. 24.
“We had some trouble in the beginning of both games, but we stayed strong and fought until the end. We ended up winning in overtime both times,” sophomore Bailey Rathert said.
Both boys and girls varsity Cross Country competed at the Hancock Invitational at Jefferson Barracks Park on Saturday, Sept. 28, with the boys placing seventh out of 18 teams and the girls placing 10th of 18th teams as well.
“This meet was a step forward for us. We competed against the other teams and showed what kind of a team we are,” junior Evan Wright said.
Varsity boy’s soccer took on Parkway central, losing 2-3.
“We played pretty badly the first half, but we bounced back and put pressure against central, creating some good chances to score,” senior Nicolas Klemm said.
On Sept. 28, the girl’s JV volleyball competed in a tournament, placing third.
“Overall, we did well as a team. The homecoming situation didn’t affect us as much as I thought it would. Although we lost to St. Joe’s, we put up a good fight,” sophomore Gwenn Pietrowski said.
Breaking a 23-game losing streak, varsity football defeated Summit 30-14, winning their first homecoming game since 2008.
“Going into it, we knew we had a chance against Rockwood Summit, so that and the fact that it was our Homecoming game got us pumped up as a team. When we were in the lead at half time, we were all pretty emotional because we thought we might win. For a while in the second half we got nervous because it was a nine-point game. Our defense closed it out well with interceptions. The best part of it all was seeing everyone come out onto the turf since it was our first win on it,” senior Jake Hughes said.
