Tensions were running high this picture day as photographers snapped the senior class of 2014. From rats on shoulders to lipstick on teeth, seniors went against the normal guidelines for picture day.
“It is a tradition for the senior class to dress goofy for their pictures because they will not be put in the yearbook. It is fun and is a day for all of us to look forward to,” senior Jennifer Welby said.
The theme this year was “Pictures Gone Wrong” and was created by senior Rachel Rigden. It consisted of anything that could make a picture embarrassing, including fake sneezing, messy hair, and messy makeup.
“I thought the idea was broad enough so everyone could participate,” Rigden said.
However, some photographers did not approve of this years theme. When seniors started to take pictures, there was some resistance.
“When I tried to put Harry Styles in my picture, they were being stubborn and not letting me. I continuously fought with them until they finally gave up and let me have him in my picture,” senior Francesca Giganti said.
There were many students who used props in their picture and had to fight with the photographers.
“They told me that they would get in trouble with their boss if they took a bad picture of us. But I don’t think they knew that it was a tradition with our school,” Welby said.
Traci Ahlbrand is a representative at Prestige Photography and comes to West every year for picture day.
“As security measures continue to tighten in all schools across the country because of violence, abductions, and natural disasters our job has become compliant to the needs of district offices and law enforcement and less lenient on what we are allowed to produce in the way of inappropriate photography even for student id’s,” Ahlbrand said.
