To celebrate the opening of the new movie “The Great Gatsby,” the English Department is sponsoring a Parkway West Gatsby Movie Day on May 11.
Set in the 1920s, The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, tells the story of Nick Carraway (played by Toby Maguire) and his move to the West Egg district of New York. Nick visits his cousin Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) and her husband Tom (Joel Edgerton), but no one is as flashy and legendary as THE Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). The movie will follow Nick as he learns more about Gatsby’s mysterious past, with plot twists including love, deception, and even death, while leaving enough room for extravagant partying.
“We picked “Gatsby” because a lot of my students had originally wanted to see the midnight premiere,” English teacher Dan Barnes said. “Instead of all of us being exhausted for school the next day, we picked Saturday. I think it will be really fun to see the movie with my current and former students.”
All students from West, current and former, are allowed to go to this event. To sign up, find the event on Facebook called “Parkway West Gatsby Movie Day.” If you do not have a Facebook, visit Barnes in room 3206. The final day to sign up for the event is April 1, so you must either say you are ‘Going’ on the Facebook event, or sign up with Barnes before that date. No extra tickets will be ordered.
See Barnes or visit the Facebook event for more information.
