When junior Chanse McClellan started rapping in 2009, he had no idea that his new hobby would later gain him about 29.9K followers on twitter and his own clothes line.
“I used to dance a lot, and one day I was just like ‘I want to try and make this type of music. I want to be famous’,” McClellan said.
Inspired by other musicians like Young Sam, Lil’ Wayne, and Drake; McClellan writes all his own songs.
“I mostly rap about life and partying,” McClellan said.
McClellan records all his own songs on the weekends and posts them to his Youtube channel. So far McClellan has made 45 videos, including songs like ‘Everything I Want’ and ‘Shut It Down’.
“I sing into a USB microphone that I plug into my laptop. Originally used the built in microphone on my laptop, but I needed a better one. After recording, I do all of my own editing and mixing,” McClellan said.
Though he has not preformed in any live shows, McClellan frequently works with other artists.
“I charge about $100 for a collaboration,” McClellan said.
McClellan can often be seen sporting a sweatshirt that reads “Team Chanse M.” Its one of the items of his clothes line available for purchase at spreadshirts.com.
“My fans came up with the clothes line idea, they just said that I should start selling sweatshirts and things,” McClellan said.
With 29.9 K twitter followers, 472 Youtube subscribers and 166,504 video views; McClellan considers his fans’ opinions very important.
“My fans really encourage me. When people tell me that they like my music it makes me want to keep making it,” McClellan said.
McClellan wants to continue rapping in the future and make a career out of his music.
“I like making music; if I have something on my mind, I rap to get it off,” McClellan said.
