With new head coach Dan Didier, the wrestling team has one meet left before Districts and the possibility of state.
“Our placement in Districts is tricky to figure out, especially since we lost so many wrestlers at semester,” Coach Clayton Kuehne said.
Since the end of November, the team has competed in 14 meets against teams such as Hazelwood West, Parkway Central, Parkway North, Seckman and Summit.
“The three things a wrestler needs to win his matches are technique, strength and heart. The team has heart, and they have made huge improvements in strength and technique, but we want to keep pushing them to get better,” Didier said.
As the season comes to a close, senior captain Kyle Campbell other wrestlers must place in the top four of their weight class to advance to state.
“I’ve been working with my coaches trying to get all of my skills refined before districts. Grant Sachs from Ladue is ranked fifth in state, and he’ll be my biggest competition,” Campbell said.
The state meet takes place at Mizzou on Feb. 14-16.
“It’s been our goal since the start of the season to send as many of our wrestlers to state as possible, we gave each wrestler the responsibility of pushing their partners to be good enough to make it to state,” Didier said.
