On Dec. 21 2012 the end of the world debate will be answered. The initial cause of such debate was the Mayan’s calender. The Mayan calender ends on the Dec. 21. Many people have interpreted it as the end of the world. However, it is only a rumor and has not been scientifically proven.
“I personally do not believe in the apocalypse besides the fact that it simply means the start of a new calender, it does not account for leap years. I think that everyone will go about normally that day besides all the kids on Facebook and Twitter saying that they survived 2012,” junior Rowand Esmiel said.
Not only is the world believed to end from the Mayan calender, but new rumors have emerged as well. Some believe that there will be a number of storms across the world that happen at the same time. Others believe that the sun will disappear causing a total blackout. Few people have gone as far as believing there will be a zombie apocalypse.
“I don’t think the world is going to end, but I do think someone seriously bad is going to happen. I think that because of all the hype, everything will be in chaos,” senior Jess Wotruba said. “Everyone is going to impulse buy, people are going to tell others how they really feel and do things they said they wouldn’t.”
Some believe that the world may end, however many do not.
“I don’t believe that the world will end, just because the Mayan’s calender ends, does not mean the world does. Maybe the Mayans had another meaning for their calender,” sophomore Aron Tesfai said.
Everyone has lifelong goals and plans. Freshman Laura Hough just published her own book, Invasion of the Puffballs.
“If the world does end, I would want to visit London and sell my book to author J.K. Rowling,” Hough said.
Latin teacher Tom Herpel will be traveling in a plane, on his way home for the holidays, on Dec. 21.
“It is perfect because I’ll be above all of the mess of tornadoes and volcanoes,” Herpel said. “But, if I found out that I was going to die on Dec. 21, I would go to all of my favorite fast food places. First Taco Bell, then Wendy’s, then Applebees, then Steak N Shake, then Annie Guns and then finish off with Oberweis. And hopefully I’d die in a food coma before I actually experienced the end of the world.”
According the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.
