The Girls’ Volleyball Team went to districts Oct. 23 at Marquette and played their first game against Francis Howell North. They won this game to advance to the second day of districts. In the second day of districts the team played Parkway Central for their first game. In the first game the team was down 7-17 and made a comeback to win the game 25-23.
“It was amazing. We were down by ten points and we came back and still beat them,” senior Sophie Baker said.
In the second game against Central the team was down 24-17 and held them at game point and scored nine points in a row to win the game 26-24. Sophomore Rachel Ellis served the last nine points of the game to help the team win.
“I tried my hardest to do everything I could to earn points for my team. I had to concentrate really hard with all the energy of Central’s crowd knowing they had game point. It was the most overwhelming feeling being able to be in control of the game behind the service line, and I was so proud of our team for fighting back and winning,” Ellis said.
In the district championship game the team played against Marquette. Marquette took both games 25-21 and 25-20 and West ended their season in second place in their district.
“Marquette is a really good team who had a great season. We went in as underdogs after already playing one game and playing on their home court and we were still able to put up a really good fight. Overall we were really happy with our district performance and it was a great way to end my volleyball career,” Baker said.
