The band attended a competition on Oct. 20 at Francis Howell Central. The band came in second place in their class and won outstanding in percussion.
“This is a really fun part of the season because our progress and improvements to the show are fast an noticeable. It is obvious that the band is getting more confident in their abilities and enjoy performing at a higher level,” Band Director Ben Pyatt said.
The band was prepared for the competition from practicing and refining their performance.
“I wasn’t nervous because I have been performing in percussion ensembles year around since I was a freshman,” senior Kyle Bequette said.
The band practices every day after school from 2:45 to 5:15 p.m. four days a week and 6:00 to 9:00p.m. one day a week.
“When we have efficient rehearsals, we get more done. When we get more done, we get better. When we get better, it is more fun. When it is fun being good, we get motivated to have more efficient rehearsals,” Pyatt said.
After the competition on Oct. 20, the band helped out at the craft fair the next day.
“I am so proud of them as a band, but even more proud of them as people,” Pyatt said. “This is a special group of people and I am very fortunate to know them.”
Their next competition is on Oct. 27 at Francis Howell.
