Girls’ Cross Country Coach Charlie Cutelli made a bet with his team previously in the season. If four girls broke a six-minute mile in practice, he would shave his head. Earlier in the season, sophomores Rachel Yang, Maddie Brown and senior Lindsey Egan broke the six-minute mark; however, that was not enough to rid Cutelli of his hair. Once the weather cooled down, Cutelli believed the girls would be more likely to break six-minutes.
“The day the girls ran their mile and broke six-minutes, it had warmed up so I thought they wouldn’t be able to do it,” Cutelli said.
Seniors Megan Tully, Audra Hartwell, freshmen Brayton Riley and Irene Frederick were the four girls to break six minutes.
“We started out with the four guard on the clippers because my hair was so thick. Everyone had the opportunity to shave my head. They were all pretty much on cloud nine,” Cutelli said.
On Saturday, October 20, the Girls’ Cross Country team competed in Districts. This is the first time since 2005 that the girls have qualified through to the Sectional meet as a team. The girls will compete in Sectionals on October 27.
“I don’t have to use as much shampoo anymore,” Cutelli said.
