It would be remiss of me not to mention that I emerged victorious in the Pathfinders Bachelor competition.

Balancing monkeys on a tree, senior Fernando Gonzalez participates in a Beta Omicron Kappa (BOK) volunteering opportunity at the Early Childhood Center. BOK members went to the Early Childhood Center once every month to play with and read to the children. “I enjoyed going and watching the kids’ faces light up when we played with them while they waited for their parents,” Gonzalez said. “The little boy was a lot better at balancing the monkeys than I was, as you can see with my intense focus and his calm demeanor.”

In her office on a school day, care counselor Rebecca Morris works with students on a personal level to help them be successful in school. Morris said it is needed to have a resource who is not a teacher or guidance counselor to focus on personal relationships. “Teachers have so much on their plates. They have to be your teacher, they have to be your counselor and they want to care about you as a person, but they have a lot of other things going on,” Morris said. “I’m trying to make sure I have contact with teachers and staff, [so] there’s somebody here to focus on a personal relationship.”

Parting the curtain separating the senior lounge from the senior hallway, senior Nolan Barbre walks the red carpet the morning of Thursday, Sept.12. In honor of the senior class theme for Homecoming week, West Coast Glam, Barbre dressed up as singer/songwriter Elton John. “This has been the best spirit week I’ve seen in all four years, just because of the participation. I see a lot more people participating, everyone’s doing it rather than just the upperclassmen. Glam Day has been my favorite day so far because I got to dress up as Elton John.”

Laughing on the bus ride to a swim meet at Lindbergh High School, senior Alyssa Theroux enjoys the comradery of her teammates. On the way back to school after every meet, the girls swim and dive team sings a song once they reach Clayton Road. “My favorite part is when we sing the chant: ‘Clayton Road, take me home to the place where I belong…’” Theroux said. “Bus rides are always fun, they’re a great place for team bonding.”
