From volunteering in an art class to teaching a family friend’s son, senior Zeina Daboul gets involved in her community to form meaningful relationships. Additionally, Daboul is a board member of NEHS and HOSA, and volunteers with Key Club.

Even though switching from a small private school to a larger school was difficult for Daboul, she ended up making the most out of school events.

“My favorite part of high school were the pep rallies. I am not too much of a fan of anything, but it was fun seeing other people so passionate about what activities they do, and the school got hyped up about it. It was the only high school spirit that I felt like I was a part of,” Daboul said.

At first, Daboul struggled with adjusting to the high school workload. Daboul also found a challenge in dealing with certain teaching styles that she did not understand. Through perseverance, she was able to still get a good grade in that class.

“There will be teachers that you are going to like immensely. It’s good to keep in contact with those teachers. For one, constant interaction with that teacher would really strengthen your relationship, and you will feel like you have a support system you can reach out to during school,” Daboul said. “Be more involved. I don’t mean club-wise. You’ll miss out on a lot of your high school experience if you stay focused solely on your studies. Go to football games or Red and Blue night. Hang out with friends. You’ll feel like you belong to a school, and it’ll strengthen your relationship with people. It’s a horrible feeling to leave your high school still detached.”
