Business teacher Kelly Kennedy smiles with her laptop in preparation for a day of virtual teaching.

Kelly Kennedy

How has virtual school changed your style?

“My virtual teaching style is definitely different from my teaching in-person [style]. As a business teacher, I try to portray a business-like, professional image when teaching in-person. I tend to wear dress pants and heels most days and I always fix my hair. Teaching from home has definitely changed my style. I still wear a more professional top and fix my hair, but the bottoms are a much different story. It just feels too weird wearing dress pants and heels to sit in front of the computer in my home office.”

How do you think your style impacts the way people perceive you on Zoom?

“Teachers are working harder than ever. I want to make sure others who might see me teaching on zoom realize that teachers are taking teaching from home as seriously as if we were in the classroom. Unfortunately, some people tend to think we are lounging around all day and never change out of our pajamas or sweats.”

How does your outfit affect the way you act?

“I am intentional about appearing professional every day as a way of modeling to students that dressing as if we are attending in-person can positively impact our mindset and therefore the quality of our work and the effort we give.”
