Handing out food to students prior to the suspension and ultimate reinstating of the daily meal pick-up service, a volunteer provides meals to a family. Parkway has stated that they worked to resume the meal service as quickly as possible. “Right now we are working to put additional safety plans and precautions in place to protect our community and employees, including protective equipment,” Parkway said in a statement.

Due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Parkway made the decision to temporarily suspend their daily meal pickup service in order to reduce the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

“Food for our children is one of our primary concerns right now. We also have an obligation to ensure we are not putting our students, families and employees at risk,” Parkway Superintendent Keith Marty said in a statement

Parkway felt this decision is the best way to protect the community. In efforts to aid students with food insecurity, Parkway provided four meals per student on the last day before their meal pick-up service was temporarily suspended, April 6.

“We regret having to make this difficult decision but know it’s the right thing to do at this time,” Parkway said in their statement.

After reevaluating the meal pick up service process, Parkway has reinstated the service. Students can now pick up five days of meals each Wednesday by completing a meal pick up form prior to each pick-up date. Parkway has stated they are excited to begin this process again.

“I want to assure [the Parkway Community] that we remain committed to our students and their future now more than ever,” Marty said in a statement.

St. Louis County Library and Operation Food Search are also offering drive-thru food pick up for children from 10 a.m. through 12 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, at nine branches, while supplies last. Additionally, the Parkway Food Pantry will continue supplying meals to students in need. You can sign up here, and donate here.

Pronouns: she/her I am a senior this year, and it will be my fourth year on staff. The Pathfinder has pushed me out of my comfort zone, made me more outgoing and helped me to become a better writer. In school, I am involved in many clubs, and I also do field hockey and pole-vaulting. When I’m not writing for the Pathfinder, I love spending time with my friends and family, working out, reading and baking. I have definitely found a love for journalism through the Pathfinder, and I plan on continuing with journalism as a career. I hope to make the world a more positive and kind place through my writing.
