The girls soccer program will compete against the boys baseball program in the first annual battle of the bones.

The ultimate battle has begun. The girls’ soccer and boys’ baseball programs are going head-to-head in the first ever Battle of the Bones, a chicken wing eating contest.

Battle of the Bones will take place at The Shack Saturday, April 13. The goal is to fundraise money for each program. The players were given paperwork where they could ask friends and family to sponsor them in the event. All proceeds go to purchasing new uniforms, socks and t-shirts, along with other expenses.

“Our baseball field needs a new drainage system,” JV coach Andrew Jett said. “Fundraising will help us raise money to purchase that so in the future we don’t have to wait so long for the field to drain, and we won’t have to reschedule as many games.”

This is the first year the fundraiser will take place. In previous years, the team hosted a breakfast at Circle 7 Ranch.

“I think the Battle of the Bones will be really fun. I think it will really bring us closer and it will be a fun competition where the soccer girls get to destroy the boys,” sophomore soccer player Leah Selm said.

The Shack is donating around 50 pounds of chicken wings to the players for the competition. The team who has more wings eaten after the given time, will be declared the winner.

“It will be hard to beat the boys, just because I have seen some of them eat before. They can eat so much,” freshman Ella Mercer said. “But we have a few secret weapons and some tricks up our sleeves that will help us compete with them.”

Sophomore baseball player Nick Harms is excited to compete against the soccer girls and plans to leave nothing left on the table.

“Eating competitions are fun, especially against people I know. And the girls soccer team has been bragging about how they are going to win, so it’s going to be a very fun event,” Harms said. “No wings will be left behind.”
