Cutting out strips of fabric for a Day of Service freshmen project, junior and club-founder Fatima Shahab and junior Brooke Gangel construct dog toys to be donated to the Humane Society. Crafting for a Cause meets once a month to focus on a new project and create hand-made items to donate to different organizations. “The goal is to make something or have some sort of project to donate or help someone in some way,” Shahab said. “I decided to start Crafting for a Cause because I really like crafting and sewing. I wanted to combine my hobby with helping others and I thought this was a good way to do that.”

Smashing a pie into Assistant Principal Mario Pupillos face, sophomore Hillary Herrera celebrates Pie Day with her classmates. Each year Key Club holds a Cash for Cancer fundraiser for Friends of Kids With Cancer. “When they called my name to pie Mr. Pupillo in the face my heart stopped,” Herrera said. “All my friends were cheering for me, and he gave me a high-five afterwards. It’s such a crazy and bizarre thing to do, so I’m really happy I got to pie my principal in the face.”

Representing West, sophomore Sabrina Bohn participates in a Parkway student-led press conference surrounding gun violence. Along with speaking at the press conference, Bohn is currently helping to organize the March for Our Lives and school walkouts. “I am passionate about stopping gun violence because I believe that no other students should have to be in fear of dying or seeing their friends or teachers die,” Bohn said. “I think this is the perfect time for every student to demand change and let their voices be heard.”
