The varsity boy’s basketball team begins their regular season on Dec. 1, at Parkway Central, against Parkway South High School, in the Annual Parkway Tournament. The team is coming off an 17-11 record from last season.

“Our goal is to ultimately improve even more from last season, and to hopefully make a stronger run this year in districts. I am excited with the lineup we are able to produce this year,” senior guard Austin Sisk said.

Important games include hosting Webster Groves High School on Feb. 3 and competing at Parkway Central High School on Feb. 6.

“One of the games we have circled on our calendar this year is Webster Groves. This is one of the better teams we will play all year and I am looking forward to competing against them,” junior center Nick Lathrop said.

The Longhorns lose a big chunk of their scoring due to the loss of alumnus Jake Socha, who scored 17.5 points per game as a senior. The team now looks to sophomore forward Wyatt Yess to carry the load.

“I have been working really hard in the off-season to help prepare me for the upcoming season. It’s going to take a team effort this year if we want to make a farther run in districts which is our main goal,” Yess said.

At 6’8, Yess had an impressive freshman season on varsity averaging 12.5 points per game along with 7.5 rebounds. Yess has attracted the eyes of many colleges including SLU, Purdue, Xavier, Mizzou, Creighton and Davidson.

“Wyatt is a great player, but what separates this team from previous years is our depth at every position, we will have a lot of players contributing in various roles. We also have great chemistry on the court which should help benefit us looking forward,” senior forward Joey Twellman said.

What do you like about The Pathfinder? What I like about The Pathfinder is the variety of stories that are covered by the staff.

How would you describe yourself? I am an easy-going, friendly guy who is an avid sports lover.

Favorite Quote: “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” - Michael Jordan

Where do you want to go to college? I hope to play baseball at Coastal Carolina.
