The Pageant gives Hoodie Allen no interruption

Selling out the venue, independent singer and rapper Hoodie Allen returned to the Pageant with his “Party With your Friends” tour on Wed. Oct 23. Opening acts were Aer, Jared Evan and Mod Sun which successfully warmed up the anticipating crowd with mixtures of todays’ top songs and some songs of their own.

Opening act Mod Sun is a 26-year old independent artist who was chosen by Rolling Stone magazine to be one of the top 16 unsigned artists in the world. He is most famous for his song “Same Way” as well as the music video on YouTube that received over 350,000 views. Mod has been touring since age 17 and has been on stage with big singers such as Shwayze and Breathe Carolina. Mod’s mission statement is “choose to be happy” and he definitely brought some happy vibes to the mosh pit at the Pageant.

After two hours of opening acts, Hoodie Allen finally took the stage singing “Lucky Man” from his album “All American.” Throughout the concert Hoodie performed mashups of his original songs with singles from various artists. He mixed his popular song “Small Town” with Michael Jackson’s “PYT.” These mashups received good reactions from the teenage-packed crowd.

During Hoodies performance of “Cake Boy,” he dressed as a chef and threw a cake into the mash pit. Needless to say Hoodie was letting loose at this concert as he continued to attempt crowd surfing, but ultimately failed as the crowd let him fall on the floor.

As the concert wrapped up, Hoodie performed some of his new songs from the album “Crew Cut” and ended with an encore of his famous song “No Interruption.” As Hoodie exited the stage, his band members put on a dubstep show with lazer lights, fog and misting the crowd with water.

The Hoodie Allen concert brought an incredible amount of energy to the Pageant. There is no question that everyone left the concert with a new respect for independent artists.

Were you at the show? This review is a bit awkward as it seems to mention things that happened at my first Pageant show (openers, set list wise) and then also mention things that happened at the the second one last week. I’m glad you had a good time but this is a bit weird…
