Eric Anthony conducts choir. “Choir is full of so many great things. It is a comfortable place for kids to express themselves and practice their leadership. Along with that, it helps boost self confidence when preforming in front of a crowd. We explore poetry, literature, history and different cultures,” Anthony said.

The choir room is buzzing with nerves as the first concert of the year is closing in. On Oct. 8, this year’s choir groups will showcase their talent at the annual Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Chesterfield Presbyterian. All choir groups, including the Girl’s Chamber, Boy’s Chamber, Concert, and Jazz will be performing.

“It is a beautiful sanctuary; open and friendly,” choir teacher Eric Anthony said.

The choir teachers, Anthony and Brian Parrish, and the choirs have been working on their concert’s set list for seven weeks.

“They are going to rock it. When you come and see it, you will rediscover music like the kids have,” Parrish said

Songs genres include blues, spiritual, pop, jazz swing, and pop jazz-fusion. Anthony will direct the Girl’s Chamber, Boy’s Chamber and Concert choirs and Parrish will direct the Jazz choir.

“Choir is full of so many great things. It is a comfortable place for kids to express themselves and practice their leadership. Along with that, it helps boost self confidence when preforming in front of a crowd. We explore poetry, literature, history and different cultures,” Anthony said.

Students will be dressed in informal dress which includes the choir t-shirt and jeans.

“Every year is a little bit different, even if the dress is the same, but this year differs mostly because we have the Chamber choirs assorted by gender, which is new. There is a big world to explore and each year we get to look at a little bit more of it,” Anthony said.

The concert will wrap up with a medley from the Jersey Boys.

“It is so much fun and upbeat! Everyone’s always dancing during class and it is just a blast,” sophomore Hope Emerson said.
