Leading the team through the banner is #3 Ryan Demuri.

On Friday, October 12, the Longhorn football team took on University City as their last home game. Their game also honored the seniors, including Ryan Demuri, who is popularly known as RD3 amongst his fans.

The Longhorns sent their game into overtime with the score tied at 35. Quarterback, Austin Sisk, made a pass to Ryan Demuri who then took off running. As he approached the end zone, University City defense brought Demuri down, twisting his right knee.

“I felt the pop and my knee grind. My surgeon, Dr. Miller, is the team doctor. He said he is pretty sure I tore my ACL,” Demuri said.

Demuri tore his left ACL last football season, causing him to undergo surgery and about five months of rehabilitation. He will go to the doctor October 15 to get an MRI and an official diagnosis. His injury is in his right ACL this time.

“It’s a big loss for us. Ryan is a captain and big part of defense. Anytime you lose a kid like him, it’s tough,” head coach Jeff Duncan said.

Despite his painful injury, Demuri’s highlight of his season was from the University City game.

“Going into overtime against University City is the highlight of my season. It was really fun despite probably tearing my ACL,” Demuri said.

Against University City, RD3 rushed four times for 12 yards, received one pass, had a punt return for 34 yards, two kick returns for 66 yards, made nine tackles and had one interception for a 30 yard return.

There will be more information to come on Demuri’s injury.
