Finishing second in the overall team competition, the Parkway West Girl’s Swim Team finished behind Glendale High School and tied with Notre Dame High School.
“State was the most exciting meet. The energy was so high and everyone was ready to race,” freshman Caroline Bias said.
Swimming scores are tallied based upon each race: Individual races are worth 20 points to first place, and relay races are worth 40 to first place. The final team score was 151.5.
“It was exciting for me personally to have placed top four in state as a team in my freshman season,” Kristen Petersen said.
Parkway West placed first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:50.03, as well as second in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
“People were impressed with our 200 yard relay because the team was made up of three freshman and a sophomore: Caroline Bias, Carolyn Kammeyer, Natalie Folkens and I,” Petersen said.
Top eight Championship Heat finishes included fourth place in the 100 Yard Butterfly for freshman Carolyn Kammeyer with a time of 56.96, sixth place in the 200 Yard Individual Medley for Kammeyer with a time of 2:09.03 and sixth place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 59.23.
“I was satisfied with my personal events, but I was happier with my relay times. My plan for next year is to win the 100 butterfly,” Kammeyer said.
After a top 16 place in the preliminary rounds, senior Ashley Robinson competed in the consolation heat of the 200 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Backstroke.
“Out of all of my years swimming, I think this was personally my best. Our level of competition at state was better compared to last year, we  had a lot more people placed in the top 16,”Robinson said.
As the swimming season ends, the team aspires to surpass their accomplishments.
“Hopefully we’ll place even higher in the future. I think as a team we’re capable of winning a state championship,” Kammeyer said.
