From the age of 12, senior Cody Boone dreamed of being a Marine.
“I really want to be a part of the brotherhood, the camaraderie is awesome,” Boone said. “Also they have the best uniform.”
Boone will be heading to the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot in San Diego. This base was officially renamed a Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Jan. 1, 1948. It provides the USA’s Corps with trained Marines to fight in the current conflicts in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The depot has the responsibility to train all male recruits who reside west of the Mississippi River. Boone leaves June 17 for boot camp.
“Boot camp is three months long and is pretty intense, but I think I’m ready,” Boone said.
Boone plans on attending college whenever he can, but due to budget cuts there is currently no funding for the military to pay for education.
“I won’t be able to go to college for a year or so, however long it takes to get that funding back,” Boone said.
Boone does not yet know where he wants to attend college, but he does know that he wants to major in law enforcement.
“I would love to be part of a SWAT team,” Boone said. “Next year is just the beginning and I’m really excited to see what happens next.”
