As a part of the band family, juniors Allison Wills, Matt Soehngen and sophomore Jacob Mueller practice their instruments. “Most of my closest friends I met through band,” Wills said. “Without it, I probably wouldn’t even know some of them.”

In a room of family and friends, the Band Boosters, a parent volunteer group, hosted a Trivia Night to support the band on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church.

“The Band Boosters have put on a Trivia Night every year for the last several years as one of their fundraisers to support the West Band Program,” Band Director Ben Pyatt said.

The Band Boosters accepted donated concert tickets, gift baskets, electronics and gift certificates to be auctioned off for the fundraiser.

“It was fun,” junior Julie Whitten said. “There were a lot of my friends in band helping set up.”

The band members worked the trivia night, while other members and their families attended the fundraiser to play and help raise money.

“Half the band kids participate in the trivia and half of them sign up for shifts to sell raffle tickets or work the silent auction,” junior Allie Wills said.

The band rented tables to groups for $160 and individuals got in for $20.

“They raised just over $6000,” Band Booster Treasurer Ann Wills said.

Each table had eight people and there were close to 23 tables.

“The room was completely full,” Whitten said.

The winning table was table number 17 and they received $160. Not everyone won, but there were small prizes, such as an attendance prize for participants that signed up and received at ticket upon entrance.

“They pulled 10 and I was one of them,” Whitten said. “I won a free small pizza for Jet’s pizza.”

Including Jet’s pizza, 86 other organizations and restaurants from around the area donated prizes and money for the trivia night.

“It’s a really fun event that a lot of our band parents, alumni and area residents attend with great enthusiasm,” Pyatt said.
