Participating in the Health Career Exploration Day, 42 students will spend Oct. 30 at Mercy Hospital learning about medical and non-medical occupations.
“I am going to the event because I want to see what type of options are out there in the medical field,” sophomore Kelsey Koenig said.
The featured careers include Emergency Medicine, Therapy Services, Environmental Services, Women’s Services, Operating Room, Social Workers, Sleep Medicine, Nursing Logistics, Critical Care, Child Life Specialists and Pharmacy. The event will take place from third to fifth hour. When at Mercy Hospital, there will be health professionals who are at booths and allow students to get information, ask questions and participate in hands-on activities.
“I hope they will tell us about different careers because I don’t really know to expect,” sophomore Amirah Hilaly said.
Students attending the event will learn about additional medical professions.
“I want to be a doctor, but I’m not sure what type of doctor yet. My parents are both doctors, and I have seen what they’ve done, so I know that is what I want to do,” Hilaly said.
Junior Nicole Moore hopes to learn more about speech therapy at the event.
“During college I want to major in speech therapy because my mom who is a special education teacher started introducing me to different jobs within the field. I was most interested in speech therapy. It also gives me a chance to work with kids which is what I want to do. I also want to look into audiology,” Moore said.
