Being a successful singer in the 21st century is a demanding task, what with the competitive music industry and popular social media sites used to advertise music such as YouTube and Twitter. Patrick Stump, the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, is number one on Twitter Music’s most talked about music artists list as of May 1, followed by Chancelor Bennett and Jake Miller. Their music styles are very diverse. Stump sings in the alternative/indie genre while Bennett and Miller are hip-hop based rappers.

These three artists contribute to the world of music in different ways. Patrick Stump is one of four in Fall Out Boy’s band with bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley. Chancelor Bennett, also known as Chance the Rapper on Twitter, became popular in 2011 and gained major recognition after his first two mixtapes were released. Jake Miller, on the other hand, has a debut album called Us Against Them, which was promoted with a national concert tour. In 2011, he opened for a Snoop Dogg performance in Florida, which initiated his fan-base of now 441,000 Twitter followers.

Able to play multiple instruments, Stump’s talent goes beyond that of his soulful voice. During a gap in Fall Out Boy’s music making, Stump embarked on a solo career. Shortly afterwards, Stump succeeded in releasing his debut album inspired by Michael Jackson and Prince, Soul Punk, on which he wrote all songs and played all instruments. He is an independent person who makes statements through his individuality and the unique spark he brings to songs.

Interested in music from the start of freshman year, Chancelor Bennett was laughed at for his dreams to one day become a musician. In July 2012, Bennett was featured on Childish Gambino’s sixth mixtape, Royalty, on the song called “They Don’t Like Me.” His appearance on this American rapper’s tape is what made him famous worldwide, and ever since his senior year of high school, Bennett has released mixtapes of original songs.

Jake Miller’s EP single, “What I Wouldn’t Give,” was played on the radio across America. After he signed with eOne Music, Miller released The Road Less Traveled, which was number one on the iTunes hip-hop chart. The success of these albums contributed to the making of his hit single, which is about overcoming struggles in life.

What makes these three artists unique is their collaboration with other artists. Patrick Stump produced the album for Cobra Starship and Gym Class Heroes. Childish Gambino asked Bennett to join his 2012 North American concert tour. Jake Miller has performed alongside Flo Rida, Sean Kingston, and Jason Derulo as well as other celebrity singers. Although their hit singles may not be what everyone looks for in a good song, Stump, Bennett, and Miller have complex singing voices that sound marvelous on their own.
